What can acupuncture help with?Because acupuncture works with rebalancing energy – it provides the body with an opportunity to heal naturally rather than masking symptoms with medicines. More and more people are now recognising the importance of addressing health problems in this way. Treatment can help with a great many health issues, but commonly people have treatment for:
Pain Relief – old or new injuries, wear and tear of joints or repetitive strain. Treatment helps to release muscle tension and bring a good flow of blood/energy to painful areas to promote healing.
Women's Concerns – the demands on women in the modern world are greater than ever before and it's no wonder that sometimes a woman's health suffers and her natural cycles are affected. Treatment helps to bring balance and restore natural rhythms. Nicola has a special interest in treating women in the menopausal/post-menopausal period and the particular concerns women have at this time such as: sleep disturbance, increased anxiety, ageing, emotional problems, hot flushes, irregular periods.
Stress – men and women alike can suffer with the stresses of modern living. Too much stress is unhealthy and can manifest in many ways - headaches, aches & pains, sleep disturbance, low mood, depression, digestive problems, weight loss or gain and much more. Acupuncture treatment is not only re-balancing and relaxing, it can also help to focus priorities and put stress factors into better perspective.
Low Energy – overwork, deadlines, not eating properly or erratic meal-times, travel, late nights, it's not so surprising that many people feel as if they are 'running on empty'! Acupuncture treatment helps to restore energy levels and, may help us review priorities. Everyone deserves to take time out for themselves.
Digestive problems – many people complain of problems with digestion such as lack of appetite, weight gain, food cravings, bloating, diarrhoea or constipation, discomfort and wind. This is not how it should be. Good food and a healthy digestion is what keeps us healthy, gives us energy and fuel for tissue repair. Acupuncture can help restore good digestive health and Nicola also offers food intolerance testing to further assist in this process.
As well as the usual type of acupuncture which most people are familiar with - Nicola also uses following:
LED Light Therapy
Cupping Therapy – good for loosening stiff muscles/unblocking/increasing circulation.
Part of ancient medicine which is often used alongside acupuncture treatment. Cups are applied along meridian lines or on other areas of the body to encourage increased circulation. Stimulation in this way helps to remove blockages in specific areas or to disperse muscle tension.
Nicola also offers back massage treatments with some cupping included. This helps to loosen stiff muscles and to energise as the cups pass over important acupuncture points along the spine.
Moxibustion – brings warmth and nourishment
Moxa is a substance made from the leaves of a herb called mugwort. The use of heat through moxa is often necessary where the practitioner needs to introduce warmth or nourishment to certain acupuncture points or larger areas.
